I didn't buy the Panasonic SD900 with bird photography in mind, but it's turning out to be a great camera for it anyway.
You need 3 things for imaging birds; 1) Reach (zoom) 2) Good low light performance 3) Excellent image stabilisation. The SD900 has all 3 in abundance!
I stopped off at the Great Wood near Northaw on the way home from work on Friday. I couldn't stay outside long due to the coughing fits caused by my ongoing horrible flu, but I did stay long enough hear a distant Great Spotted Woodpecker high up in the canopy. And luckily I had my trusty camcorder with me.
80X handheld zoom? Marvellous! Can't wait to get back to the Venezuelan rainforests to put this beauty to the test
And it's a male
